'For a small child there is no division between playing and learning; between the things he or she does 'just for fun' and things that are 'educational.' The child learns while living and any part of living that is enjoyable is also play.' Penelope Leach

Life in FS1

A place where learning takes root, characters grow and confidence flourishes!

The foundations of learning and development of knowledge and skills are embedded in our Nursery and Pre-School. In Nursery and Pre-School all children are welcomed into our Eaves Family, positive relationships are formed with children and their families as we want every child to have the best possible opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential as an individual. Individuality underpins the way we plan our curriculum and develop the childrenā€™s learning through the environment, high-quality interactions and thoughtful relationships. It is in this manner that we can provide stimulating and challenging learning opportunities for the children within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We build the childrenā€™s experience around the four principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage, celebrating

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

The indoor and outdoor environment enables children to develop their independence and confidence to become engaged in their learning. Children can make choices about what to use and when developing their self of self and of responsibility for their learning space. A key focus is on teaching children routine easing them into learning in a structured environment. We follow the EYFS Framework and use Development Matters as a supporting resource. The 3 Prime Areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language Development and these are at the heart of our practice, forming the firm foundations of our teaching.Ā  The children have enriched opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills within the Specific Areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage taking part in learning which focuses on Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Nursery and Pre-School is a place for communication and language, where both verbal and non-verbal communication is celebrated and nurtured. It is an environment that is rich in storytelling, repetition, song, rhyme and familiarity to build the childrenā€™s knowledge. Children have consistent opportunities to learn about themselves, their bodies and they are supported to develop physical skills through playful experiences.

Nursery and Pre-School is a happy, safe and stimulating environment. Our children are cared for, nurtured, celebrated and encouraged.
